Hollywood Park Racecourse Information

Hollywood Park after opening in 1938 has become the scene of some notable racing "firsts". In 1951 when Citation won the Hollywood Gold Cup he became the first racehorse to break the $1 million in career earnings. In 1979 Affirmed won the Hollywood Gold Cup to be the first horse to break $2 million. In 1983 John Henry won the Hollywood Turf Cup and in the process became the first horse to break $4 million in earnings. The first Breeders Cup championship was staged at Hollywood Park. Another record that was broken at Hollywood Park was Bill Shoemakers one of being the winning most rider when Laffit Pincay Jnr. won on Irish Nip at Hollywood Park and so riding the 8,834th of his career
