Bing Crosby and Pat O'Brien helped build Del Mar after original developers
22nd District Agricultural Association ran out of money
On the 3rd July 1937 the track opened with the great film star Bing Crosby greeting the first patron through the turnstile
During the Second World War the track closed and was used as a Marine training center
It was also used as an assembly line for B-17 Flying Fortress wing ribs
