Captain Ryan Price won the Schweppes Gold Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Newbury four times out of the first five runnings of the race. His winners were Rosyth (1963, 1964), Le Vermontois (1966) and Hill House (1967). All four winners were ridden by Josh Gifford.
In 1987 the race was re-named the Tote Gold Trophy and Neblin won the first running of the new race.
The race became the totesport Trophy in 2005 and was won by Essex (IRE)
