That was not actually the first winner that he ever rode as he won a steeplechase at Bangor on Dee on a pony called Maid of Trent.
The last successful ride for Fred Archer was on Blanchland at Newmarket on October 29 1886.
His last race ride was on Tommy Tittlemouse at Lewes on November 4 1886.
Fred Archer committed suicide by shooting himself on November 8 1886 only four days after his last ride.
