Huddersfield Cardiff Goal Difference 1924

Huddersfield Town were the winners of the 1923/1924 First Division Championship. The interesting little fact about this is that Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City (who finished second) both had 57 points but the system in use at the time to decide tiebreakers - goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded) - put Huddersfield marginally in front (1.818 to 1.794) which gave them the Championship. These days goal difference, goals scored minus goals conceded, decides such situations but in the rare case of identical goal differences then total goals scored would decide. In 1924 Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City both had a goal difference of 27 and using the system that is in place today then it would be Cardiff City who would be Champions - +61 goals to +60 goals.
